The New York City man, whose name was not released, fell ill on top of the peak on the east side of the Hudson River, around 1:30 p.m., said Randy Simons with the NYS Park Police.

Unable to climb down the trail, the man was brought down by Westchester County rescue workers and then airlifted from the traffic circle at the Bear Mountain Bridge, said Simons.

Early Monday, Simons said the man is expected to survive.
