Indian Point Siren Test Called Success

BUCHANAN, N.Y. -- A test of the Indian Point sirens Wednesday morning, was a "100-percent success," according to plant officials.

The test, completed around 10:30 a.m. this morning, was performed to make sure all sirens in the area including Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Orange counties, are working properly in the event of an emegency.

If there is an emergency at the nuclear power plants, the sirens would be sounded continuously at full volume for four minutes, followed by an activation of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) on radio and television stations to broadcast important information and instructions.
