Indian Point’s Unit 3 nuclear power plant returned to service Thursday, generating electricity following a 10-day shutdown to replace two water seals, according to Entergy.
The unit went offline on June 12 for a planned maintenance shutdown to replace two water seals that sit between the lid of the reactor and the reactor vessel, Entergy officials said.
During the shutdown, Indian Point Unit 2 continued to operate at full power and has been online for 351continuous days.
The Indian Point nuclear power plant has been supplying electricity to the New York City and surrounding area for more than 50 years. The plant, which generates approximately 2000 megawatts of electricity for homes, business, and public facilities is slated to shut it down by April 2021.
