CORTLANDT-- The Hendrick Hudson Leos Club Stay Awake-A-Thon, held May 7-8 at Hendrick Hudson High School in Montrose, ended with a bang, as the youth club handed off a giant check for $24,500 to the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital on Thursday morning.

“This is an opportunity for us to celebrate with cancer survivors,” said Leo Club Advisor Debbie Costello, “remember those who lost their battle, and provide support and encouragement to those currently battling this disease. The success of this event is because of the generosity of the wonderful people in our community.”

Half of the money from the third annual Stay Awake-A-Thon went to the children’s hospital, the other half will remain in a “Leo Local” Community Cancer Fund.

“The cancer fund was created,” said Leo President Danny Briggi, “to provide financial assistance to those in our community battling this disease.”

The Hendrick Hudson Leos Club is part of the Lions Club International, and is an international social services organization. For more information about the Hendrick Hudson Leos Club, or to join, visit the organization website.
