The VA Hudson Valley Diabetes Support Group is free and available to veterans currently registered for VA care. The group meets every second and fourth Monday at the FDR Montrose campus, 2094 Albany Post Road, Montrose.

The next meeting at FDR Montrose takes place on Monday, Jan. 25, at 1 p.m., Building 14, room 6.

The group also meets every other Tuesday at the Castle Point campus, 41 Castle Point Road, Wappingers Falls. The next Castle Point meeting takes place on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2:30 p.m., in the Primary Care Conference Room.

“This is a support group conducted by our mental health professionals and nursing staff, for people who are struggling to manage their diabetes,” said Yurcania Toribio, MSN, RN, veterans health education coordinator for VA Hudson Valley. “This is not a nutrition or diabetic instruction group. This is meant for those people who are overwhelmed with the diagnosis, and who don’t have a handle and don’t know where to pick up to start.”

Toribio said interested veterans need only attend the meeting at the campus closest to them. She said veterans must let their primary care team know they are interested through phone call or visit.

“You are not alone. We can help. Allow us the opportunity to listen to you and together create a plan that works for you,” Toribio said.

For more information or details on how to sign up, call Toribio at 914-737-4400, ext. 3530.
