Flooding and Trees Knock Out Power in Cortlandt

CORTLANDT, N.Y. —  Claire and John Menzie found Sprout Brook Road surging with flood water, after tropical storm Irene went through. Other parts of the village are also impassible, as a result of high water and downed trees.

At least one boat in the Viking Boat Yard in Verplanck and parts of Crugers Station Road were flooded by Sunday morning’s heavy rains and winds. Approximately 1,530 people in the Cortlandt and Croton area are without power, according to ConEdison’s “outage map.”

The Village of Croton posted two maps on its website detailing where trees and power lines have fallen and where residents are without power. Jerry Nappi, a spokesman for Entergy, confirmed that Indian Point is operating at full power and has not lost outside electricity.
