BUCHANAN, N.Y. – Unit 3 of Entergy’s Indian Point Energy Center in Buchanan will be shutdown for maintenance purposes starting Friday.
A leak of clean steam on the non-nuclear side of the plant was detected overnight, according to a press release from Entergy officials.
Entergy operators started reducing power to Unit 3 about 7 a.m. Thursday, but later determined the leak could only be repaired with the unit closed.
Nothing radioactive was released and no workers or members of the general public have had their safety threatened, according to the press release.
Unit 3 was also closed most of March for maintenance and refueling; the unit will be back in service once the latest issue is resolved, according to the press release.
