DANBURY, CONN. With less than a week left, for holiday shopping the Danbury Fair Mall was filled to the brim with shoppers Sunday.
Parking spaces were few and far between and cars were occasionally stopped in traffic on Interstate 84 on the exit to the mall. Shoppers said the mall was as busy as they expected it to be.
Its pretty bad, said Amy Kirkshank of New Milford, Conn. as she left the mall with her daughters. She said she was just about done with her holiday shopping. The lines are long. Its crazy.
Others were less impressed by the crowds.
Honestly its not that crowded compared to Albany, said Tom Dunn of Kingston, who was shopping with his girlfriend. He said he had gotten a decent amount of shopping done but had only just begun.
Today was the first day, Dunn said.
The mall has extended its hours in the week before Christmas from 7 a.m. to midnight. On Christmas Eve the mall will be open to 6 p.m.
Of course the mall also had Santa on hand to take photos with good girls and boys, as well as other regular attractions like a bungee slingshot.
The mall was also doing other things to keep shopping fun and lively for customers and their families. Outside one of the main entrances to the mall, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas gave customers a gentle ribbing and took pictures with children.
One of his helpers was Stephanie Wilson, or as she called herself Joy the Jewish elf from Manhattan.
Well, technically Im from the North Pole, she said with a laugh. Its crowded but were having a good time. Were running around making people happy and hes making people miserable because hes the Grinch.
