King has been serving as Acting Village Manager since May when then Village Manager Abraham Zambrano left to assume the position of Village Manager in the Village of Ossining. The appointment will take effect after the contract has been approved at the Aug. 10 Village Board meeting.
“Throughout her years of service to Croton, and especially during the past three months as Acting Village Manager, Janine has maintained a level of professionalism, integrity, and productivity at Village hall that impressed all the Trustees," Mayor Leo Wiegman said in a statement. "The appointment of Village Manager is one of the most important decisions a Village Board can make. My colleagues and I are very pleased that Janine has accepted this position.”
As the Chief Executive and Administrative Officer of Croton, King will be responsible for the daily operations of the Village and Village Departments, including oversight of all employees. She was formerly Croton's Assistant Village Manager, a position she held since Dec. 2008. She previously served as Assistant to the Village Manager and began with the Village in 1997 as a part-time records management clerk and office assistant.
“As a result of having held a variety of positions, I have a broad understanding of Village operations,” King said in a statement. “As a Village resident, I clearly understand the rising expectations of residents and businesses for increased services, accountability, and professionalism from Village government.”
