Croton EMS Given $16,500 Recruitment Budget

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Croton Volunteer EMS was given a $16,500 recruitment budget by the Board of Trustees to help attempt to draw people into the struggling volunteer organization .

Mayor Leo Wiegman called the “ability of many people to contribute,” one of the high points of the plan, designed by First Lt. Mark Dickey. The plan asks for professionals, from graphic designers to event planners and people experienced in human resources, to donate their skills. Dickey even suggested that the organization could begin planning basic CPR classes for baby sitters.

Low enrollment has been one of the trademark problems with Croton EMS’ high response times. At one point in June the organization’s president, Bill McCabe, told The Daily Croton that only about a dozen members routinely participated in calls . Croton EMS recently hired a paid EMT to help lower response times during weekday daytime hours. Croton EMS receives more than 800 calls per year.

“With the changing economy and increased challenges that residents face in both personal and professional life the number of volunteers has been decreasing.” Dickey said in a press release. “With our upcoming recruitment efforts we hope to maintain Croton EMS as a cost-effective volunteer organization.”

Those interested in volunteering, as an EMT or in any other capacity, should contact Dickey at or by phone at (914) 271-4500 x201. Visit for more information.
