Officials from Entergy and New York State agreed to shut down both nuclear reactors at the Indian Point facility by April 2021.

Under the agreement, one of the reactors will be shuttered in 2020 with the second to close down by 2021.

"As the elected Town Supervisor where this major industry is located, Cortlandt and Buchanan should not have heard about this major news from a newspaper article," Puglisi said.

Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino called the Indian Point agreement a "secret deal" that was "a complete surprise to us" and "potentially catastrophic."

Puglisi called for a Blue Ribbon Commission to address issues with the closure of the plant which include the tax revenue the town and school district generates, area businesses that depend on Indian Point and the thousands of jobs created by Indian Point.

The supervisor said the commission should include state, county, and local officials along with key stakeholders. A similar commission was established when General Motors closed its Sleepy Hollow plant.

"The closure of Entergy's Indian Point reactors is even larger with more issues to discuss," Puglisi said. "A commission needs to be established immediately. I volunteer my participation in this important endeavor."

Puglisi called for a similar commission in 2011 when Gov. Andrew Cuomo was considering closing Indian Point.
