The memorial will be on the front lawn of Town Hall on Heady Street, she said.

Cortlandt already has a Purple Hearts Veterans Memorial in the Town Hall’s courtyard, where it flies the flags of all branches of the military.

It also has a Veteran’s Memorial at Cortlandt Waterfront Park in the hamlet of Verplanck.

The town is asking local veterans or their families to send in vets’ names for inclusion on a plaque.

The honoree’s branch of service and rank are also needed, Puglisi said.

The monument will be dedicated sometime in the fall.

In her announcement, Puglisi also mentioned that Willy Nazario, a Vietnam vet and chairman of the Cortlandt Regional Veterans Committee, has been named national commander of the Purple Heart organization.

To contact the town about including a name on the new memorial call (914)-734-1002, or email Puglisi at lindap@townofcortlandt.com.

Letters can be mailed to Town Hall, 1 Heady St., Cortlandt Manor, 10567.
