CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. -- Hudson Valley Hospital Center and Mrs. Green’s Natural Markets have announced a new partnership to educate consumers about how to read food labels, giving New Yorkers new tools to make healthy eating decisions and avoid chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes and heart disease.
Dr. Jamie Moore, director of sourcing and sustainability for Cura Hospitality, will kick off the partnership by presenting a special lecture, “What’s in a Label? From 'Free-Range' to 'Organic'” at HVHC.
Moore’s presentation, which is part of HVHC’s Harvest for Health program, will help educate consumers on what to look for when shopping at the grocery store and how to read through an overwhelming amount of information on product labels to determine which foods are right for a healthy lifestyle. “Being aware of what we are eating is the best way to make sure we are eating healthy – and that begins with reading food labels,’’ said John C. Federspiel, president of Hudson Valley Hospital Center. “Our partnership with Mrs. Green’s – along with others we have forged with schools, physicians and restaurants – will give our community the tools it needs to incorporate healthy eating into their lives.’’ “Mrs. Green’s believes that knowledge is power – especially when it comes to families and consumers making healthy decisions in the aisle," said Pat Brown, CEO of Mrs. Green’s Natural Markets.
