CORTLANDT MANOR, N. Y. -- Four experts on drug addiction and prevention are planning to offer tips on addiction treatment and recovery at the Cortlandt Community Coalition's annual presentation on Nov. 9 in Cortlandt Manor.

The free community forum is open to everyone, and topics include how to prevent addiction, treatment options for addiction, changes to insurance, and challenges to recovery.

Titled "Doing Our Part for Teens: Prevention, Addiction, Recovery and Treatment," the forum takes place from 7-8:30 p.m., Nov. 9, at the Muriel H. Morabito Community Center, 29 Westbrook Drive, Cortlandt Manor.

“We have assembled a noted group of experts who can provide us with guidance and answer questions from concerned parents. Every time we offer an informational seminar like this, we are hoping to change and save lives,” said Cortlandt Town Supervisor Linda Puglisi.

The four experts will talk about different aspects of addiction treatment and recovery. Ellen Morehouse, who is the executive director of Student Assistance Services, will provide prevention tips for parents.

Stephanie Marquesano, founder of the Harris Project and an advocate for teens and young adults with co-occurring disorders, will focus on mental health challenges and substance use. Mike Ahearn, a recovery coach, will share his experience with addiction and discuss signs of potential teenage addiction that parents may miss.

Dr. Alicia Murray is a board certified psychiatrist and board certified addiction psychiatrist who will focus on the connection between mental health and addiction.
