“We are confident this new store will prove to be a big hit with smart shoppers who are seeking better deals and bigger savings to combat the increasing costs of everyday living," said Rob Claxton, senior vice president of marketing for Big Lots.
The store's grand opening is Friday, Nov. 16, when it plans to donate $2,500 to Walter Panas High School as part of a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
In August, Cortlandt Supervisor Linda Puglisi said the store could bring 60 to 80 jobs to Cortlandt. The current number of employees was not available Tuesday evening.
The Cortlandt Manor location is the Ohio-based company’s newest store, and is one of 1,450 stores in 48 states. Big Lots calls itself North America's largest "broadline, closeout retailer."
The 20,300-square-foot store offers shoppers consumable goods, seasonal goods, home décor, electronics, toys and one-time closeout. Many area residents have already begun receiving the store's advertising flyer in their mailbox. The store replaces the now-defunct Circuit City, which formerly occupied the building.
The store will be open Thanksgiving Day and at 6 a.m. Black Friday, said spokesperson Toni Fink.
"One of the top sellers of the day is our recliners, because people realize they need more seating. So it's more seating, it's silverware," said Fink.
