Cortlandt has appropriated $1.9 million dollars to be spent from the highway fund. No bonding or borrowing was needed. The town is paying for the project with money saved in the highway portion of its budget.
The town has spent $1.6 million each of the past two years in road repair. In three years the town has expended $5.1 million dollars to resurfacing town roads without incurring any debt.
The staff paving committee recommends a list of roads for treatment after evaluating all 170 miles of town roads. The list, which is geographically spread throughout the town, is submitted to the Supervisor and Town Board. At a public meeting on a town board agenda, the officials cast their vote for the 2016 paving list.
