CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- A new service at the Hendrick Hudson Free Library in Montrose is providing patrons with access to thousands of DVDs, television shows and CDs.

The library has partnered with hoopla digital to offer these services. Montrose cardholders can download the hoopla app on their smartphone or visit .

“Partnering with hoopla digital allows us to take part in a service that is changing the future of the public library, while fostering ideas and imagination on-the-go” said Library DirectorJill Davis. “Mobile technology is in demand and with this new service, our library can offer dynamic content that is free for our patrons and easy-to-use. There is no waiting period for popular titles and hoopla’s automatic return means no late fees. ”

Hendrick Hudson is the thirteenth library system in the state of New York to partner with hoopla digital. The Somers Library also offers hoopla.

"It's a pretty cool service," said Michael Manon, chief brand manager of hoopla. "All this content is instantly available to cardholders. You don't have to wait for someone to be finished with their audiobook of "Divergent."

The movies, television shows and audio books automatically disappear after a certain period.

"You can stream the content immediately or download the content later when you have a long plane ride," Manon said.

Hoopla launched last July and has been growing quickly with more than 255 library systems and serving more than 42 million people, from small libraries to big libraries like the Toronto library system.

Aside from offering entertainment, the site allows users to download books like SAT prep books and police officer exams.

"This is the next evolution of library services," Manon said. "You can borrow 100,000 pieces of content without ever going into the library. This is not out of reach for normal libraries."
