WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. Northern Westchester first responders from fire departments to ambulance corps will have an opportunity this weekend to participate in a workshop that will teach them how to properly apply for grants for their organizations.
State Assemblyman Robert Castelli (R, C - Goldens Bridge) announced that the Northern Westchester Firemens Association will host an informational workshop on assistance for first responders on Saturday in North Salem. The workshop will focus on the Assistance to Firefighter Grant (AFG) program that provides firefighters and emergency response organizations with additional resources to help them do their jobs.
The Assistance to Firefighter Grant has helped firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed training, protective gear, equipment, emergency vehicles and other resources needed to protect emergency personnel and the public from fire and related hazards. It is one of several Homeland Security grants relative to emergency preparedness, interoperable communications, and catastrophic planning provided by the state Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services.
This is an essential program to help ensure our firefighters, first responders and other emergency services have the tools they need to better serve our communities, Castelli said. Emergency responders put themselves in harms way to keep us safe, and it is imperative that they have the proper training, equipment and resources they need to ensure their safety and our own.
The workshop begins a noon at the North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 14 Daniels Road, in North Salem. No registration is necessary for the program, which will run approximately two hours.
