Bunting Hung in Memory of Larchmont Police Captain

LARCHMONT, N.Y. – Sgt. Ron Knudsen hung black and purple bunting outside the Larchmont Police Department late Tuesday afternoon memorializing police Capt. Thomas Sullivan, who died Tuesday in a fire that engulfed his home in Carmel and took the lives of his wife and two teenage daughters.

The memorial bunting will hang above the front entrance until after a funeral is held.

Fire Capt. John Caparelli and other members of the Larchmont Fire Department helped Knudsen hang the banner around 5 p.m.

Police Lt. Antonio Rigano, public information officer for the Larchmont Police Department, issued the following statement at 5:40 p.m.

“During the early morning hours of May 1, 2012, the Larchmont Police Department received notification from Town of Carmel Police Department that patrols along with fire personnel had been summoned to the home of Larchmont Captain Thomas J. Sullivan. Although the circumstances are still under investigation by members of the Town of Carmel Police Department, the Putnam County Sheriff Department, and State Police and Fire Investigators; it appears that a fast moving fire engulfed Captain Sullivan’s residence on Wyndham Lane in the Town of Carmel, and subsequently Captain Sullivan, his wife and two teen-age daughters perished in the fire.

“Captain Thomas Sullivan was a twenty-year veteran of the Larchmont Police Department, with six years prior police experience in the NYPD. Captain Sullivan served as the Department’s Executive Officer. Funeral services are pending.”
