CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. - A Bronx motorcyclist was killed when his bike crashed head-on with a minivan on the Bear State Mountain Parkway Sunday evening. New York State Police said the three occupants of the minivan were not seriously injured.
James Parker, 47, of 222nd St., Bronx, appears to have been traveling at a high speed when he crossed over the double yellow line heading eastbound on the parkway and hit the minivan, State Police said.
The driver of the minivan, Elizabeth Santos, 45, and two passengers, Amanda Santos, 15, and Antonia Fisher, 66, were taken to Westchester Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries after being extricated from the Chrysler Town and Country by Lake Mohegan Fire Department officials, according to State Police.
Parker was taken to Hudson Valley Hospital Center, where he died of his injuries. It appears Parker was wearing a helmet, and all passengers in the minivan were wearing seat belts, State Police said. Preliminary reports indicate no fault on Santos' part, police said.
Investigator Sean Morgan of the New York State Police said details of the accident, including why Parker crossed over the double yellow line about a quarter-mile west of the Rt. 6 interchange, will remain unclear until the accident reconstruction report is completed.
Morgan said it appears that "the combined speed was significant."
