DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. Black Friday is a day of hectic shopping and slashed prices as shoppers look for the deepest discounts at nearly every store.
Many companies are looking to give shoppers a head start and will open as early, or late, as Thursday night, Thanksgiving, to give customers the extra edge. Stores like Best Buy open at midnight and many are giving customers a sneak peek at Black Friday ads online.
Some of the biggest deals include Best Buys Sharp 42 LCD HDTV for $199.99, marked down from $499.99. Deals like this are often in-store prices only with limited supplies.
The economy has caused many local residents to scale back on holiday shopping though, regardless of the Black Friday deals.
Weve definitely cut back on our family shopping the past few years, said Dobbs Ferry resident Ellen Crane.
If you want the same deals, but want to avoid the crowds at 4 a.m., many companies will have Black Friday deals online as well. Everyone from shoppers to bloggers have been searching for the best online deals rather than battle the cold.
If you're hearty enough to drag yourself out of bed in the middle of the night, stand in long, cold lines, and fight deal-crazed crowds, just to score a super low price on a laptop, hard drive, or whatever, I salute you, said Rick Broida in a CNet article reviewing Black Friday deals.
Some websites, such as BFAds , are devoted entirely to updating, comparing and linking to the new deals popping up at various stores. Other websites like Amazon have entire sections of its site devoted to the annual deals , which update each day.
Friday can also be a time to get Christmas shopping done early for the kids too as video game systems often come at a fraction of the price. Walmart is offering a Playstation 3 160GB bundle package with two games for $199 on Black Friday. Target is offering a 4GB Xbox 360 for $139.99, which is a $60 discount from its usual price.
Remember to double check the ad or the company website before heading out because oftentimes there will be updates on the stock remaining in store.
