That's exactly what happened Thursday night in North Salem.
A black bear was spotted at Lake Hawthorne at around 8 p.m.
North Salem resident John Gilles, 23, first saw the bear making its way through the parking lot at the beach.
"It's running," Gilles said when he first saw it. "It's on the beach."
Gilles' girlfriend, 22-year-old Samantha Marshall, who was also on hand for the sighting, contacted Daily Voice with the news.
Black bears have recently been sighted throughout the area, including North Castle, Ossining, Bedford and Peekskill.
