Birthday Boy Arrested in White Plains Assault

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – A Greenwich, Conn., man celebrated his 24th birthday in handcuffs after White Plains police accused him of punching a 24-year-old Cortlandt man in the mouth early Sunday.

The victim told a police officer patrolling Waller Avenue about 3:45 a.m. that he had just been punched in the face and knocked to the ground by a man, later identified as Ricardo Molina, according to a police report.

The officer said in the report that the victim had a large bump on his right cheek and cuts inside his right check, and both sides of his jaw were swelling. Additionally, Molina's right hand seemed to be swollen, the report said.

The victim told the officer that the assailant had just entered the passenger side of a white Lexus sedan that was backing out of space on Waller Avenue. The officer instructed the driver to stop and turn the engine off, then asked Molina what had happened. According to the report, Molina told the officer:

"I'm not gonna lie, it's my birthday and I had some to drink tonight. But that guy knocked my girl down and I told him if I see him again I am gonna punch him in the face, and that's what I did."

After interviewing other witnesses, the officer arrested Molina. He was charged with third-degree assault, a class A misdemeanor, and was released on $500 bail. He is due back in court June 14.
