Ball Kicks Off Re-Election Campaign in Yorktown

YORKTOWN, N.Y. – State Sen. Greg Ball (R, C – Patterson) says he does not need the luck of the Irish to win back his seat in the Senate. Meeting with his supporters at a St. Patrick’s-themed event at Murphy’s in Yorktown, Ball kicked off his re-election campaign that he expects will result in a resounding victory.

“I can say something about the troops that have stood by my side. We're battle tested.” Ball said. “We’ve been to this dance before, we know how to win it, and we’re gonna do it again.”

Ball said he expects to win because has lived up to two personal promises that he made when he initially ran for assembly six years ago. According to Ball, he promised to term limit himself at each level and to not seek outside income.

“Most politicians would have run away from that once they got elected like a scolded dog,” Ball said. “I believe that keeping that personal commitment to the voters in this district is critically important.”

Along with the November election, Ball said he is especially unworried about his chances in the September primary against former friend and Assembly member Steve Katz (R, I – Yorktown), who will officially announce his candidacy on Monday.

“We won’t win by 70 percent, we’ll win by 90 percent,” Ball said. “How many of you knew him before I introduced you to him? We worked with him, I spent tens of thousands of dollars, I introduced him to my family, to my friends, to my support group.”

Prior to Katz’s formal announcement, Ball’s Campaign Manager Jim Coleman said “Katz is pulling a Benedict Arnold that makes Judas look like a Girl Scout.” A small group of Katz supporters lined up down the street from Murphy’s to protest Ball’s campaign event 

“So what is he saying? That Greg Ball’s Jesus Christ?” said Katz supporter Robin Murphy in response to Coleman’s comments.

Ball was not surprised at Saturday’s protest and anticipates the primary and general election campaigns to turn even uglier, but said he is ready for the challenge.

“I am combat tested. Not in the military,” said Ball, who was a member of the United States Air Force. “The worst combat I saw was a cocktail party in Washington D.C. I’ve earned my stripes in this business.”
