White Plains 98-Year-Old Yoga Master Gets Star Treatment In New York Times

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.  --- It might be hard to imagine an 98-year-old woman executing complicated yoga poses with ease or strutting her stuff on “America’s Got Talent,” but in one White Plains nonagenarian’s case, it’s not a stretch at all.

At 98, Tao Porchon-Lynch of White Plains, is said to be the world's oldest yoga instructor. She was recently featured in The New York Times.

Tao Porchon-Lynch, founder of the Westchester Institute of Yoga, has trained and certified hundreds of yoga instructors.

In 2014, she was named as the world’s oldest yoga instructor by the Guinness World Book of Records.

Despite having had, not one, but three hip replacements, she still teaches in Hartsdale and Scarsdale – when she isn’t taking part in competitive ballroom dancing, that is.

The published author and world traveler, who dresses to kill both on and off the dance floor, was recently featured in an article in The New York Times fashion and style section.

Wearing a pink T-shirt, clip-on earrings and wildly patterned leggings, she struck a pose for the Times photographer.

According to the Times, Porchon-Lynch is about to be featured in Athleta, a catalog of workout apparel.

Her youthful lifestyle and boundless enthusiasm shatters stereotypes about old age and wellness, Athleta chief Nancy Green told the Times.

Last year, Porchon-Lynch strapped on her red high heels and poured herself into a silver dress to wow the “America’s Got Talent” judges with her 26-year-old dance partner, Vard Margaryan, according to a previous report by the Daily Voice.

Now a media darling, she was interviewed on NBC’s “Today” show and was written up by Westchester and Prevention magazines, appeared on the Martha Stewart show, and even sat on the Panel for Peace with the Dalai Lama.

According to Porchon-Lynch’s website, she was an actress in England, France and the United States in the 1940s and ‘50s, a documentarian and a literacy teacher.
