Westchester Broadway Theater Auditions School Kids

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Aspiring child actors can soon try out for a part in The Westchester Broadway Theater's production of the musical "Home for the Holidays."

On Thursday, Nov. 10, the theater will hold auditions for two essential roles – J.J. and Sara. Two children will be cast for each part, as they will take turns, each performing four times per week.

The story follows an American family during the holiday season, from Thanksgiving to Christmas. The solidier son hopes to be home, and one daughter prepares for a pageant while the other finishes her exams. The play is filled with new music, well-known holiday songs and some Broadway classics – a "musical menu that we think audiences will find funny, touching and joyous," said writer/director David Edwards.

"This year I hope to give a gift back to the audiences with 'Home for the Holidays,' a brand new holiday musical written just for the Westchester Broadway Theater," Edwards said.

For the role of Sara, producers are looking for a middle school-aged girl shorter than five feet tall. For J.J., they are in need of an elementary school-aged boy who is not taller than 4'10". The Westchester Broadway Theater will consider children outside the age restriction if they meet the height requirement.

Performing experience is not necessary, but would be helpful. Prior experience includes talent shows and school choir.

Rehearsals will begin mid-November, with the show in session from Nov. 20 to Dec. 23. Parents should be aware that partaking in "Home for the Holidays" will require the child to miss some school.

Children are asked to prepare a short song for the audition; sheet music must be available for the accompanist. Email wbtjob@cloud9.net with your contact information to be called for an audition time.
