CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Margaret Anne Robinson of Croton-on-Hudson died Feb 2. She was 82.
An artist and botanical illustrator, she exhibited regularly in local Croton and Westchester shows.
The daughter of James Vincent and Emily Di Crocco, she was born June 26, 1929 in Staten Island, N.Y. She studied painting and drawing for two years at the Villa Schifanoia in Florence, Italy under direction of teachers from the Accademia delle Belle Arti. She also studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City.
Robinson worked as a copy editor at American Heritage Books, an interpreter at Van Cortlandt Manor and freelance copy editor for Art in America and other publications. She married Elton Seydel Robinson in New York City in 1960 and they moved to Croton-on-Hudson in 1962.
Locally, she and her husband worked with the Croton Shakespeare Festival for many seasons and as co-chairs in 1979. Robinson was also an active parishioner at Holy Name of Mary Church, where she served for many years as a lector.
In her 60's, Robinson returned to art education, earning certification in botanical art and illustration at the New York Botanical Garden in 1993. She participated regularly in juried botanical exhibitions around the U.S. as a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists, including a solo exhibition at New York Botanical Gardens in 1999.
She is survived by her husband Elton, her daughter Anne (Gordon) Armour of New Haven, Conn., her sons Tim (Marguerite) Robinson of Croton-on-Hudson and Michael (Aimee Berg) Robinson of New York City and five grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Holy Name of Mary Church in Croton-on-Hudson. Interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery in Croton. Funeral arrangements were handled by the Edward F. Carter Funeral Home.
