WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. Operation PROM seeks help providing dresses and tuxedos to high schoolers across Westchester who could not otherwise afford prom attire.
Operation PROM Founder Noel DAllaco urged residents to help the organization build off last springs success.
We were able to collect 3,200 dresses and arrange discounted tuxedo rental for boys. Many businesses provided free or discounted hair and makeup vouchers for students as well, DAllaco said in a press release.
For the seventh year, the Westchester County Department of Social Services has helped distribute prom attire to local teens living in shelters or group homes and other low-income high school students. Recipients must be passing all classes and receive a guidance counselor's recommendation.
County Executive Rob Astorino asked Westchester residents and businesses to pitch in.
The inability to afford a gown or a tuxedo shouldnt hold any one back from having a memorable prom experience, Astorino said in a statement. That is why I encourage all Westchester County residents to search their closets and ask family and friends to donate any formal attire they no longer use.
Dresses and tuxedos will be distributed in various Westchester locations in mid-April.
Operation PROM is collecting prom dresses, bridesmaid dresses and formal gowns that are not more than 3 years old, long-sleeved, velvet or stained. Tuxedos, evening bags, jewelry and shawls are also accepted. Attire can be dropped off at the following locations: Life Cleaners at 300 Nepperhan Ave. in Yonkers, State Farm Insurance at its 282 White Plains Road location in Eastchester, and Rye Ridge Cleaners at 265 S. Ridge St. in Rye Brook.
Monetary donations can also help cover the cost of prom for teens. Checks can be made payable to Operation PROM and mailed to:
