CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. John J. Behen Jr., 77, of Cortlandt Manor died suddenly on April 20 at his home.
He was born July 22, 1934 in Buffalo, N.Y. to John and Marguerite Shanahan Behen. A graduate of St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute, Erie County Technical Institute and State University of New York, Behen spent his entire career at Union Carbide Corp. He worked mainly in analytical chemistry in Tarrytown. Behen retired in 1994 as manager of product safety for the specialty chemicals division.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Patricia Doody, five children Kathleen Colonna, John J. Behen, III, Dr. Susan Behen (Andrew Goldberger), Madonna Behen (Karl Arnason) and Michael Behen (Ren Almanzor), eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild. He is also survived by six first cousins.
A memorial Mass is planned for late May at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Shrub Oak, followed by burial in Cortlandt Manor. Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home in Lake Peekskill.
