CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- The Temple Israel of Northern Westchester, the Reform congregation in Croton-on-Hudson, announce its new clergy member, Cantor Benjamyn Ellerin.

"A strong value for our congregation is to make everyone feel at home by fostering warm and respectful relationships among the members of our community. Not only does Cantor Ellerin have a beautiful voice, but he shares this important value. We are very fortunate that he has joined our community," stated Lynn Fielden-Smith, Cantorial Search Committee chair.

Ellerin earned a bachelor’s degree in vocal performance, minoring in Jewish Studies from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. While there, Ellerin founded and served as music director of Hooshir, Indiana University's premier Jewish a cappella group. Inspired by his experience singing in and conducting choirs, he continued his studies by earning a master’s degree in choral conducting.

He was ordained as cantor in May at Hebrew Union College in New York. While studying there, he served as cantorial intern and director of choirs at Park Avenue Synagogue in Manhattan, cantorialiIntern at Congregation Rodeph Sholom in Manhattan, and student cantor with congregations Darchei Noam and Tzur Hadassah in Israel. In addition to his work as a cantor and conductor, Ellerin devotes his time to composing, recording, and promoting new Jewish music.
