CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. ? Croton Yacht Club members say Hurricane Sandy caused hundreds of thousands of dollars of damage and destroyed at least three boats.

Twelve boats floated away during the storm ? all but one have been located ? and between 15 and 20 were tossed into a pile against a fence on Elliot Way.

"We're getting things back together. We'll survive this and be a stronger club," board member Dennis Kooney said as a crane lifted boats one-by-one from the pile at the fence on Elliot Way.

Boats swept away by the storm were recovered in Verplanck, Stony Point and Rockland County. The Ohana, a 35-foot motor yacht, was recovered on the CSX railroad tracks just north of the club. Club members credit CSX employees for helping them maneuver their large blue crane onto the tracks to hoist the craft.

A sailboat named the Pot Luck was still beached in the parking lot at the Croton Landing Park.

The 35-foot sailboat Lady Dorina was saved when a stray buoy attached to a half-inch diameter rope snagged in the railing of the club's deck.

The club's docks were lifted out of the water by the tide and point into the sky at a 45-degree angle.

The Croton Yacht Club is one of many heavily damaged clubs, boat houses and shipyards along the Hudson River that as yet are unable to estimate the costs.

At Hudson Valley Marine in nearby Verplanck boats were washed into the streets and left high and dry by Hurricane Sandy.
