“When working with the team at DW Design & Decor it has always been about the personal experience for each and every one of our clients and making sure we meet the unique vision of each individual project along the way,” said Wenacur, principal of DW Design & Decor llc in Croton-on-Hudson.

DW Design & Decor llc provides customized interior design services for residential and commercial projects throughout Westchester and surrounding areas, from concept to completion. The common element throughout is "good design." "Good design is good design in any type of creative project,’’ said Wenacur, who has owned her business since 2003. “There’s always a reason why an element is chosen for a certain place, whether it’s a colorful painting in a room or a specific fabric on a chair. There’s also a functionality to every item that is unique to that project’s solution. It’s sort of like an oversized jigsaw puzzle with a place and reason for each piece.”

She draws upon 30 years in the design profession, starting out as a graphic designer in financial advertising. “Even before the digital movement, I was working for a company that focused on hand re-touched photographs and pre-press photographic services for advertising agencies,’’ said Wenacur, who earned a double major in Fine Arts and Communications from Iona College. “My first job was as a graphic designer illustrating slides by hand and mechanical boards for annual reports, and it all spun out from there. I was at the starting point of the digital age, and it was a unique place to be and great timing for a young, open-minded classically trained artist. I was the last generation to see how things were done by hand and witnessed the birth of software programs like Adobe Photoshop. Transitioning into the digital age was easy for me and opened many doors.”

Wenacur’s career path unfolded into digital design, first designing CD-ROMS for American Express’s travel division and later designing the front end of Fortune 500 company websites, when websites first became mainstream. “However, after almost 10 years, I found the medium very limiting,’’ she said. “The bandwidth was a lot different then and the downloads were very slow. It wasn’t the creative outlet I wanted.”

The turning point in her design career, she said, came when her family moved to Croton-On-Hudson. She and her husband purchased land to build their home, and Wenacur enjoyed every step of the process. “I loved finding the land, the construction, working with architect and trades,’’ Wenacur said. “The final design of the furnishings and the soft goods made it our own. I wanted to create an atmosphere where we could relax, and was also conducive to entertaining and being with friends and family. After this experience, I knew I wanted to help other people create their ideal living space.”

After earning an additional certification from the esteemed New York School of Interior Design in New York City, Wenacur launched her own interior design firm to bring her eye for detail and creative design skills to residential and commercial clients.

Now she’s one of the most highly sought after interior designers in Westchester. In March she upgraded to a larger design studio at her location at 75 South Riverside Ave. in Croton-On-Hudson with a view of the Hudson River, to meet the demands of her many exciting projects and to accommodate team meetings.

Wenacur has been voted “Best of Houzz” at Houzz.com for five straight years for the firm’s design work and commitment to excellence. Houzz is the leading platform for home remodeling and design and honors industry professionals nationally and globally based on the designer’s popularity and ranking by the site's 35 million users.

DW Design & Decor llc offers services in Interior Design, Construction Design and Coordination, Space Planning, Kitchen and Bath Design, House Furnishing and Decorating. She utilizes virtual 3D CAD digital technology for client approvals of spaces that have yet to be created to help them envision the end result. “Its all about good planning and attention to detail,'' Wenacur says.

With a certification from Pace University as a Construction Manager, Denise recommends reliable resources for her renovation projects based on the needs and scope of the projects. “It’s like being a construction matchmaker, bringing together high level skills and the right personalities for a smooth positive client experience and beautiful end result,'' she said.

Timelines vary depending on the complexity of the project. Some simple room re-designs can be completed in a few months. More involved renovations can take more than a year. “The best dynamic is when you have the client, designer, architect and contractor all working together to serve the needs of the client,’’ Wenacur said. “It’s all about constant, good communication and teamwork.”
