Children's Museum Transports Tools for Success

If you are driving around town this summer, be sure to keep an eye out for the Westchester Children’s Museum 's new vehicle, which will be transporting the tools to make learning fun across summer camps and community centers in the area, said executive director Tracy Kay.

The yellow-and-white colored van, which will be decorated with graphics promoting the museum, will be used to build awareness as well as to provide materials for the science, technology and cultural programs part of its “Museum Without Walls" education program.

“We could be building solar cars or playing drums, so the vehicle will be able to help us with transportation,” he said.

The vehicle was donated to the Westchester Children Museum by Curry Automotive Group, and was presented to the organization this past June at the grand opening of Curry’s new Subaru - Hyundai showroom in Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.

“Having the vehicle from Curry Automotive Group advertises our partnership with them and fact that we do have these educational programs in place,” Kay said.

Throughout the next few months, the van will be stopping by the Boys and Girls Club of Northern Westchester in Mt. Kisco, Port Chester’s Carver Center, the Rye YMCA and more. The goal of the "Museum without Walls" Program, which was launched in early 2010, is to provide fun, yet educational programming for low-to-moderate-income families across Westchester and Lower Fairfield County, Connecticut.

The Westchester Children’s Museum will soon build its central location at the Rye Playland North Bathhouse.

In the meantime, Kay and his team have already developed a strong community following. They recently celebrated their sixth Explore-a-Thon this past June, which featured “exploration stations” of balsa wood airplane flying, a pop-up water park and wind tunnel, storytelling tent and music, to name a few. More than 500 families attended the event.
