This is the the Rockland's town 7th annual Bastille Day Festival which takes place on Main Street and the surrounding riverfront. French flags will flap along Main Street alongside tons of food, wine, specialty cocktails and live music.
Just a short ride over the Tappan Zee and you'll be transported with a reenactment of the “Storming of the Bastille,” locals dressed in period costumes and a “Masters Petanque Championship."
For foodies, the attraction will be Main Street, which we turn into a Paris street fair, working outside as we set up Piermont Avenue with a “Fruits de Mer” station offering freshly shucked oysters and clams as well as jumbo shrimp and hard shell crabs.
I will also be offering “Classique” Saucisson de Lyon a dry cured sausage specialty from France made with the addition of red wine. Enjoy this while walking the streets with brie and a baguette.
Additionally, the dining rooms at both Freelance Café and Xaviars will be done up to celebrate Bastille Day with a menu to match along with sidewalk seating. If the aromas of Coquille St Jacques, garlicky esgargots, coq aux vin, and ris de veau doesn't grab you, maybe you'll be tempted by our Grand Marnier soufflés.
