Tarrytown's Lubins -n-links Ranks Among DVlicious Hot Dog Contenders

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- The classic hot dog, in all its bronzed, charred perfection, holds a special place in the hearts – and stomachs -- of most Americans, especially come summer. July, in fact, is National Hot Dog Month, thanks to the designation by the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council.

Lubins-N-Links, 38 Main St., Tarrytown, (914) 909-4198

Frank Talk: This Tarrytown hot dog joint may be tiny, but its menu is large. Its lubins are basically slow-roasted beef brisket piled on a hot dog bun and its all-beef links come in so many different styles, you'll find it hard to choose just one. Among customer favs are The Davey, which is topped with bacon, french fries, onions and chipotle sauce. The Loaded Potato has sour cream, mashed taters, bacon, cheese and onion. The Jerk is covered in jerk sauce and coleslaw, and The Figgy, with fig jam and sweet onions.

There are turkey and veggie dogs and chicken breast sammies as well. Because it’s basically a takeout place, there is limited seating inside. But a quick trip around the corner leads you to their Tahiti-themed outdoor patio where you can inhale your lunch in peace.

Top This: Their homemade toppings are based on family recipes and include: a 15-ingredient chili, "Jubee" onions (roasted onions, shallots and a tangy “secret” sauce), cheez (made with four different cheeses) and Mama’s spicy kraut (sauerkraut, onions and a red sauce with a big kick).
