What's Happening This Weekend Around Cortlandt

CORTLANDT, N.Y. - Here are some of the events happening this weekend around Cortlandt and Croton.

Friday, July 13

Sundown Band: 7 p.m. The Village of Croton presents the Sundown Band, performing "unique renditions of Southern Rock classics." The show is at Senasqua Park, located on Elliott Way in Croton. Free.

Saturday, July 14

Verplanck Fire Department Parade: 6 p.m. The parade will be held in conjunction with the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Festival. The parade begins at 5th Street in Verplanck.

Family Butterfly Houses: 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. Meet at Cliffdale Farm and go butterfly hunting. Nets will be used to catch and release butterflies found in the fields; at the end of the program butterfly boxes can be constructed to take home. This event is limited to seven families, one box per family. All materials are provided. Admission is $15 per family for members of Teatown Lake Reservation; $20 for non-member families. Home Improvement Workshop: 10 a.m. - 11 a.m., 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Every Saturday in July the Home Depot of Mohegan Lake will host home improvement workshops. Morning classes focus on interior paintings techniques for walls and ceilings, and afternoon classes focus on installing laminate flooring. Croton Arboretum Garden Tour: If you haven't purchased tickets in advance for this tour of residential estates and small village plots, go to St. Augustine's Episcopal Church in Croton between 12:15 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Included in the $20 ticket price is admission to a plant sale.
