CORTLANDT, N.Y. This weekend is packed with special events , from the Croton Yacht Club's River Day celebration, which has the fringe benefit of the "best chowder on the Hudson," to the Cortlandt Family Fun Day and the 14th Annual Local Color art exhibit presented by the Croton Council on the Arts.
Friday, Sept. 7
Let's Pretend with Nora 1:45 to 2:15 p.m. Caregivers and children between the ages of 2 and 5 can do songs and movement with Nora. Croton Free Library, 171 Cleveland Drive, Croton-on-Hudson.

Saturday, Sept. 8
Croton Yacht Club River Day 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event focuses on educating children and adults about the history and ecology of the Hudson River. Admission is free. Food and beverages will be available along with what the yacht club says is the "best fish chowder on the Hudson." Croton Yacht Club. 6 Elliott Way, Croton-on-Hudson.
Cortlandt Family Fun Day Noon to 4 p.m. This free event, presented by the Town of Cortlandt, includes games, rides and bouncy castles galore. Community organizations will also be on hand to discuss their missions and ways for families to get involved. The rain date is Sunday, Sept. 9. Cortlandt train station parking lot.
"Local Color" Art Show 4 to 6 p.m. Presented by the Croton Council on the Arts, this multidisciplinary show exhibits the work of member artists. This is the 14th anniversary of the show, and specific dates run through September. Check out the Croton Council on the Arts website for more information. Sunday, Sept. 9
Toughman Triathlon 5:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. More than 1,200 adults and 700 children will run, bike and swim the Toughman Triathlon. Route 9 and 9A will be closed to vehicular traffic. Residents who wish to travel south should use the following detour: Route 129 east to Quaker Bridge Road, travel over the Quaker Bridge, continue south on Quaker Bridge Road until it meets Albany Post Road, continue south to access Route 9 south in Ossining. Onlookers are encouraged to cheer on runners during the last leg of the race at Croton Point Park. Parking available at Croton-Harmon train station.
Cortlandt School of Performing Arts Open House 1 to 4 p.m. Join teacher and owner Carol Arrucci for the grand opening of the performing arts school. 24 Old Post Road S., Croton-on-Hudson.
