What To Do This Weekend Around Cortlandt

CORTLANDT, N.Y. - Bundle up this weekend. Despite chilly temperatures there's still plenty to do outside, from a pinewood derby to an "owl prowl."

Friday, Jan. 25

Beer Tasting: 6-9 p.m. Left Hand Brewing Company and Flying Dog Brewing Company will be at the Green Growler Grocery for a beer tasting. The Green Growler is at 368 S. Riverside Ave., Croton. 

Pinewood Derby: 7 p.m. Croton's Pack 28 of the Cub Scouts will have a pinewood derby at the Croton Auto Park, 1 Municipal Place, Croton. Awards will be given out for the three fastest cars and other categories.

Drop-In Movie Night: 7:30-9:30 p.m. The Croton Recreation Department hosts a movie night for Croton middle school students. There is no recreation fee, although refreshments must be purchased. The movie will be shown at the Stanley H. Kellerhouse Municipal Building, 1 Van Wyck St., Croton.

"Love, Loss and What I Wore": 7:30 p.m. Based on the book by Ilene Beckerman, Nora and Delia Ephron’s "Love, Loss, and What I Wore" is full of comic and moving stories. An ensemble of actresses play characters who reveal memories evoked while debating what to wear. This event is free at the Croton Free Library, 171 Cleveland Drive, Croton.

Saturday, Jan. 26

Owl Prowl: 9 a.m. Join members of the Sawmill River Audubon for a morning adventure across our area as they travel to find roosting owls. Meeting location and sites visited to be determined depending on current reports. Registration is required; email office@sawmillriveraudubon.org or call 914-666-6503.

"Crazy Love" Cabaret Show: 6 p.m. Solos, duets and ensemble song and dance will be performed at the Croton Academy of Arts, 8-B Old Post Road S., Croton. This show is suitable for the entire family. Admission is $5. 

Croton-Harmon Education Foundation's Dine Around: 6:30-11:30 p.m. Hop from home to home, dining at a different house during each course at CHEF's Dine Around. All proceeds benefit the foundation, which provides education grants to the Croton-Harmon School District. To purchase tickets, visit the foundation's website. 

Sunday, Jan. 27

Winter Tree ID: 1-2 p.m. Learn to identify trees by their bark, branches and buds, no leaves necessary. This workshop takes place at Teatown Lake Reservation, 1600 Spring Valley Road, Ossining. Admission is free for members and $5 for non-members. Call 914-762-2912 ext. 110 to reserve. 

Tiki Daddy: 2 p.m. Tiki Daddy offers Hawaiian-inspired American jazz, reminiscent of the 1920s. Tiki Daddy’s members live in Cold Spring. All ages enjoy this music, from young school children to grandma and grandpa. This event is free and presented by the Croton Free Library, 171 Cleveland Drive, Croton.
