What To Do Around Cortlandt This Weekend

CORTLANDT, N.Y. — There are plenty of unique ways to please your sweetie before Valentine's Day. Make him or her a card at the Croton Free Library's card workshop, or watch the eagles nesting during Teatown's Eaglefest 2013. Check out all of the events below.

Friday, Feb. 8

Ice Skating at Westchester Academy: 6:30 to 10:40 p.m. The Village of Croton invites middle school students to go ice skating at Westchester Academy. A bus will leave from the Stanley H. Kellerhouse Municipal Building, 1 Van Wyck St., Croton, at 6:30 p.m. The $14 fee includes rental skates. Reservations are recommended by calling the Croton Recreation Department at 914-271-8562.

Saturday, Feb. 9

EagleFest 2013: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Don't miss the daylong celebration of wintering eagles in Croton Point Park. Additional eagle viewing stations staffed with birding experts are also at the Croton River Boat Ramp, George's Island, the Croton Dam, Steamboat Dock in Verplanck and the Riverfront Green Park in Peekskill. Cheerleading Clinic: 2:45 p.m. Join the Hendrick Hudson Sailor Cheerleaders at a clinic to learn a cheer and a dance, cheer from the stands with the cheerleaders during the Hen Hud Varsity basketball game, then perform at halftime alongside the cheerleaders. Admission is $10. Participants should bring a snack and water. Register by emailing Sailorscheer1@gmail.com. This event takes place at the Hendrick Hudson High School dome, 2166 Albany Post Road, Montrose.  

Pre-Valentine's Singles Dinner and Dance: 7 p.m. This meet-up group at Charles Point Harbor had nearly 150 attendees in 2012. Check out this year's event. See its Meetup group page for more information on how to register. 5 John Walsh Blvd., Peekskill.

Valentine's Swing Dance: 7 to 10:30 p.m. The entire community is welcome at the annual Valentine's swing dance. A dance lesson is provided from 7 to 8 p.m., then all are invited to show off their moves until 10:30 p.m. The Yorktown High School Jazz Band, Concert Band and Wind Ensemble provide music. "Love — The Many Stages Of:" 7:30 p.m. Musical theatre stars Cris Groenendaal ("Phantom of the Opera") and Misty Ann Sturm ("The Secret Garden") bring love to the stage. This Valentine’s concert looks at the tragic, joyful and comic aspects of love and relationships. Come hear the gorgeous voices of Groenendall and Sturm as they sing musical theater classics. This event is free. Croton Free Library, 171 Cleveland Drive, Croton.

Sunday, Feb. 10

Valentine Card Class:  2 p.m. Create beautiful, fun and fanciful valentines for those special sweeties in your life. Handcraft several cards that capture your personality and deliver your individual message with a variety of specialty papers, embellishments and techniques. This event is for teens and adults, and for all skill levels. Registration is required, call 914-271-6612 or visit the Croton Free Library, 171 Cleveland Drive, Croton.

Assemblywoman Sandy Galef's Town Hall: 2 to 4 p.m. Assemblywoman Sandy Galef (D-Ossining) will answer questions from constituents in the 95th Assembly District. Stanley H. Kellerhouse Municipal Building, 1 Van Wyck St., Croton. 

Irish Music in Verplanck: 3 to 6 p.m. Check out this afternoon of traditional Irish music. This is a division of the Hudson Valley Irish Fest. Admission is $20. Verplanck's Hudson Valley Irish Center, 210 6th St., Verplanck.
