Veterans Day, Nov. 12

Schools Closed: Hendrick Hudson, Lakeland and Croton-Harmon School Districts are closed in observance of Veterans Day.

Cortlandt Veterans Day Ceremony 12:30 p.m. A ceremony to honor veterans and observe Veterans Day. Muriel H. Morabito Community Center, 29 Westbrook Drive, Cortlandt.

Balloons Over Broadway 1:30 p.m. Hear the amazing true story of the puppeteer who created the first Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade balloons. There will be parade-related activities and crafts after the story. This event is for children in first through third grades. Origami Holiday Ornaments Workshop 6 p.m. Learn simple but impressive paper-folding techniques to fill your home with holiday flair. Cortlandt Zoning Board of Appeals Meeting 7 p.m. The Cortlandt Zoning Board of Appeals meets to discuss current matters of zoning in the town and take legislative action. Cortlandt Town Hall, 1 Heady St., Cortlandt.

Croton Community Meeting 7-8:30 p.m. Croton Village Manager Abraham Zambrano holds a community meeting at the Grand Street Firehouse to discuss village residents' concerns. 154 Grand St., Croton.

Hendrick Hudson School Board Meeting 7:30 p.m. The Hendrick Hudson School Board meets to discuss current issues in the district and take legislative action. Hendrick Hudson High School library, 2166 Albany Post Road, Montrose.

Croton Zoning Board Meeting 8 p.m. The Village of Croton Zoning Board meets in the Stanley H. Kellerhouse Municipal Building, 1 Van Wyck St., Croton.

Thursday, Nov. 15

Matinee Movie 1:30 p.m. "The Avengers" (PG-13)  features Scarlett Johansson and Robert Downey Jr. in the ultimate superhero story. Hendrick Hudson Free Library, 185 Kings Ferry Road, Montrose.

Croton-Harmon School Board Work Session 7:30 p.m. The school board will meet to discuss issues in the district. No public comments will be heard. Croton-Harmon High School Community Room, 36 Old Post Road S., Croton.
