At the event, 4 A Better Westchester and New York State Association will announce its 2015 projects and present awards to Catherine Borgia, majority leader of the Westchester County Board of Legislators; Croton-on-Hudson Mayor Leo Wiegman and the village Board of Trustees; Croton Free Library; Susan Ellingwood, The New York Times Op-ed page assistant editor; Food Bank for Westchester; Homestyle Desserts Bakery; Hudson River Sloop Clearwater; A.J. Jacobs, People magazine writer, author of the forthcoming "It’s All Relative"; People magazine; Presentation Multimedia, Dean Steinman, President; Red Oak Transportation; Phil Reisman, The Journal News; Joel Stein, Time magazine; the "Today" show; NBC; and Union Solidarity Graphic. The Great Plates award will be presented to Christopher Breiseth.
Refreshments will be served, and there will be a PUZLCAKE, which is a cake decorated with a puzzle.
“Franklin D. Roosevelt had the first known vanity license plates, on his cars with hand controls he designed, after he was paralyzed by polio,” said M.H. Fryburg, the president of the 4 A Better Westchester and New York State Association.
The organizations will also announce that the Croton Tomato Project, whereby tomato plants are grown from Park Seed Co. seeds and given to individuals and organizations (including the Food Bank for Westchester) will be repeated again this year. They will plant tomatoes in the Food Bank Garden in Katonah, operated in conjunction with ARC of Westchester (which supports the intellectually disabled).
The Croton Free Library is at 171 Cleveland Drive.
