Santa, Shrek Star At North Pole Adventure Featured At Yonkers' Ridge Hill

YONKERS, N.Y. -- You’ve never seen Santa like this. The North Pole Adventure, a Dreamworks DreamPlace in Yonkers Ridge Hill, creates an entirely new holiday experience that’s a lot more than sitting on St. Nick’s lap.

Ridge Hill Shopping Center in Yonkers is the first of eight DreamPlace locations around the U.S.

“Combining DreamWorks’ history of storytelling and technology, we’ve developed DreamPlace with the hopes of creating a unique experience for the entire family that transports guests to a very special destination up North,” said Jeffrey Katzenberg, DreamWorks Animation chief executive officer, who attended the DreamPlace launch on Thursday.

The glowing, 40-foot tall, 2,000-square-foot holiday cottage that includes animated exterior panels is located at the center of Ridge Hill’s Town Square.

Dozens of children from the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester were the first to enjoy the magical journey, while the Yonkers’ Lincoln High School Choir sang “Hallelujah” inspired by DreamWorks Animation’s “Shrek.”

“For generations, families have been visiting Santa in the exact same way,” said Katzenberg. “We figured the big guy – and all the families in line – deserved something a little better.”

The 15-minute adventure allows families to build a custom sleigh and ride it to the North Pole, play engaging electronic games, see how the “Naughty and Nice” machine works and meet with Santa. Photos and video of the visit can be purchased at the end of the experience.

“We are thrilled that DreamWorks has chosen Yonkers and its popular Westchester’s Ridge Hill as the site of the first North Pole Adventure,” said Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano, in an announcement. “We have so many families in this area and in the entire region—including my own three children— who will be delighted to make a tradition of visiting this attraction!”

The North Pole Adventure runs seven days a week through Dec. 24. You can schedule your visit with the “DreamPlace” app.
