“We are pleased to provide an opportunity to discuss the risk factors, screening and treatment options for lung cancer in recognition of National Lung Cancer Awareness Month,” said Michael Ebright, director of thoracic surgery at Stamford Hospital. “Studies show the enormous value that earlier screening makes after thoughtful discussion between a physician and an at-risk patient.”
Stamford Hospital’s comprehensive lung cancer screening program encourages yearly lung screening with low-dose CT for individuals ages 55-77, who are current or former smokers having quit within the past 15 years and have smoked at least a pack of cigarettes a day for 30+ years.
A cornerstone of the program is the Hospital’s new Commit to Quit smoking cessation program, which includes multiple one-on-one customized sessions with a trained tobacco specialist.
The “Shine a Light” event will include a panel discussion, testimonials from lung cancer patients and light refreshments. Panelists include Ebright and Melissa Ronk, thoracic nurse navigator at Stamford Hospital’s Bennett Cancer Center, who works closely with physicians to assist patients who are diagnosed with lung cancer.
The event starts at 6 p.m. and is free and open to the public. To learn more about it and to register, call 1-877-233-WELL (9355) or click here.
