MONTROSE, N.Y. -- The public is invited to attend the National Maritime Historical Society’s Charles Point Council Lecture Series on Saturday Nov. 14, at the Hendrick Hudson Free Library in Montrose.
The lecture “The Slumdog Historian and the Centennial of the Navy Reserve” will be presented by Commander Dave Winkler, U.S. Navy Reserve. He will discuss the story behind the creation of "Ready Then, Ready Now, Ready Always: More Than a Century of Service By Citizen Sailors", a remarkable illustrated narrative published in conjunction with the centennial of the Navy Reserve.
Winkler, a historian with the Naval Historical Foundation who received his doctorate from American University, will discuss how individuals he met during his 28 years of naval service inspired numerous vignettes, making the book a fascinating read.
Hendrick Hudson Free Library is at 185 Kings Ferry Road, Montrose. Coffee and registration begins at 10:30 a.m., lecture begins at 11:00 a.m.
