Genevieve Goings, the star of "Choo Choo Soul" on Disney Junior will be performing at 6 p.m. May 8 at Briarcliff High School as part of a fundraiser for the Briarcliff PTA.
Goings will be performing songs from her new solo album, "Do You Know." The event will feature a meet-and-greet with Goings at 5:30 p.m.
"It's not everyday that a Disney Junior star performs at Briarcliff," said Briarcliff Middle School teacher Amanda Schwartz.
Schwartz first heard of Goings through her son, who at age 1, would be glued to the TV when she came on.
"The first name he said was Genevieve," Schwartz said. "He has a huge crush on her."
Schwartz and her son met Goings at Sesame Place and struck up a friendship with her. Goings is performing at Briarcliff as part of a tour of schools.
"She's for kids from kindergarten to second grade," Schwartz said. "But there are a lot of younger kids who would love to see her in concert. We want to make it a community event and reach out to everyone."
There is a lot of excitement in Briarcliff about her appearance, Schwartz said.
"Kids were freaking out," Schwartz said. "Everyone was singing the ChooChoo Soul song. They all know her and they can't believe she is coming to the school. It's a huge deal that she's coming to the school."
Schwartz said Goings is an amazing person who is great with the kids who come to her shows.
"My son is s nervous around her, but he loves her so much," Schwartz said. "He always says Genevieve is my princess. She's such an amazing person, it's really incredible how good she is with little kids."
For the parents, Schwartz said Goings makes sure to throw in some jokes they will laugh at.
The Briarcliff PTA helps bring assemblies to Briarcliff, including author visits at Briarcliff Elementary School and providing lunch on field trips.
