CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- Adults and families are invited to join volunteers for the Fifth Annual "I Love My Park Day" on Saturday, May 7 at the Old Croton Aqueduct. The rain date is Sunday, May 8.

Volunteers will help preserve trees and native plants on the Aqueduct trail by removing invasive species, lopping tree-strangling vines, removing litter and rebuilding a historic stone wall.

Experienced naturalists and arborists will offer instruction on plant identification and plant-removal techniques. A New York State Parks' crew will work alongside volunteers.

Additionally, a stone mason from J&C Masonry and Landscaping will lead the repair of a historic stone wall.

Tasks for all skill and age levels will be available, from assisting the mason to pulling low-lying garlic mustard. Sponsor SavATree will provide a crew and a chipper for the day.

Tools, gloves and bug repellent will be provided. Consider wearing long pants, a hat and a long-sleeved shirt, and bring a lunch.

The Black Cow Coffee Company will donate coffee; Mrs. Greens will supply healthy snacks; Feed the Birds and Run On Hudson Valley will donate prizes to be awarded during the afternoon break.

Volunteers may register at ptny.org/ilovemypark or at the event.

Volunteers will meet on the Aqueduct trail at Croton Gorge Unique Area (look for white canopy). Parking will be available on Quaker Bridge Rd, Croton-on-Hudson, between addresses 99 and 124.

The event is hosted by The Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct. It is held in collaboration with New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and Parks & Trails New York.

The event will be from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
