Weston Challenges Greens Farms in TV Quiz Show

WESTON, Conn. – A team of students from Weston High School will compete on the MSG Varsity channel quiz show “The Challenge” Tuesday evening.

“The Challenge” showcases the best and brightest high school students from across the tri-state area. On Tuesday night’s season debut, students from Weston High School will take on Westport’s Greens Farms Academy.

The Weston team is represented by Eric Schanzer, Lisa Maddox (captain), Scott Perlik, Rachel Fraade and Tess Maggio (alternate). The academic advisors for Weston are Dan Passarelli and Bill Moeder.

“We’re proud to celebrate academics on MSG Varsity through 'The Challenge' and to provide these extremely bright students a platform to showcase their talents with their communities,” said Theresa Chillianis, MSG Varsity’s general manager.

The format has moderator Jared Cotter, an "American Idol" semi-finalist, ask students questions based on their knowledge of history, art and literature, current events, math and science in front of a live studio audience.

“Each season I am blown away by the students’ intelligence and their wide array of knowledge in so many diverse categories,” said Cotter. “I’m really excited to get the season started and to see which teams are going to bring it.”

Winning teams will advance through a series of elimination rounds, with one school in each region being crowned regional champion and winning $2,500 for their school. The winning teams from each region go on to “The Challenge” Championship, where they square off in a tri-state showdown.

The tri-state champion will receive $10,000 in prize money and each student participating in the final “Challenge” championship game will receive $500.

“The Challenge” airs at 6:30 p.m. on Cablevision’s Channel 14. If you miss Tuesday night’s show, MSG Varsity will re-air the program on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 2 and 6 p.m. and Nov. 7 at 6:30 a.m.
