Brookside Kids Take the Stage for "Seussical, Jr."

If you thought musical productions are only for high schoolers, you were wrong!  Students at Brookside Elementary School are getting ready to stage "Seussical, Jr." taking on its musical numbers and dance performances, as well as its elaborate sets and costumes. You can see the  show when the curtain goes up this Thursday and Friday at 7 pm. and Saturday at 2 p.m.

"Seussical Jr." is a two-act play featuring Dr. Seuss' beloved characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, Mayzie La Bird, and a little boy with a big  imagination--Jojo. In a flight of fantasy, the characters are transported from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos. Based on Dr. Seuss's story "Oh, the Thinks You Can Think," the show's spirit of imagination is also the musical refrain of the show.

"Seussical, Jr." is Brookside's second annual school production. Last year, students performed "Beauty and the Beast" and this second show involves a cast of about 37 third, fourth and fifth graders.

"The students rehearsed over 125 hours, and had to juggle this responsibility with school, social, and family life," says Jeff Beckly, a third grade teacher who directed the production.   "Their dedication has been inspirational and has proven, once again, that young people are capable of great things!"

Tickets are $5 and performances will take place at the school on 382 Highland Avenue.
