Wilton's John Murphy, who plays out of Brooklawn Country Club in Fairfield, finished third to lead performances by area players in the 7th annual Russell C. Palmer Cup Tuesday at Rolling Hills Country Club in Wilton.
Murphy finished at two-over-par 214 for 54 holes, three shots behind winner Evan Beirne. Jeff Hedden took second at 212. Shorehaven's Tommy McDonagh, of Wilton, finished fifth at 224 while Mike Ballo of Woodway and Brooklawn's Brian Murphy tied for sixth at 224. The Palmer Cup is a Connecticut State Golf Association event named after the organization's former executive director.
