CORTLANDT, N.Y. Hudson Valley Hospital Center will bring together five artists, two from Peekskill, for its "Five Corners" art show in the hallways and main lobby of the hospital.
There is always an element of storytelling to my art," said Brook Maher, who has done public art in Peekskill and Yonkers. In 2009 Maher completed an 8-by-24-foot mural in collaboration with the ceramics teacher and students of Walter Panas High School. Maher has worked from Peekskill's Flat Iron Gallery for more than 20 years.
My love of bold color, line and shape, as well as intricate, fabric-inspired patterns, gives my work a graphic quality. My work is joyful," Maher said.
The show opens Sept. 17 and may be viewed seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The public can meet the artists from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18. The exhibit will be on view through Jan. 2.
Larry D'Amico, president of the Peekskill Arts Council, also will have his impressionist-style paintings exhibited in the hallways. D'Amico has taught at ArtsWestchester in White Plains and the Silvermine Arts Center in New Canaan, Conn.
